Akurit-3 Tablet is a combination medicine used in the treatment of tuberculosis. It prevents the growth of the microorganisms that cause the infection.

Akurit-3 Tablet is a combination of rifampicin, isoniazid, and ethambutol.

However, make sure to complete the full course of treatment. This will ensure that the infection is completely cured and prevent it from returning.

How to use Akurit-3 Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Akurit-3 Tablet is to be taken empty stomach.
Avoid Akurit-3 Tablet with tyramine-rich food such as cheese, smoked fish, meats and some types of beer.

Pregnancy

Akurit-3 Tablet is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.
Driving

Akurit-3 Tablet may cause side effects which could affect your ability to drive.
Akurit-3 Tablet occasionally causes sight problems and tingling or numbness in hand or feet. After taking this medicine you should not drive until you know how it affects you.
Kidney
CAUTION
Akurit-3 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Akurit-3 Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Kidney function tests are advisable before the start of this medicine.

Yes, Akurit-3 Tablet contains rifampicin which can cause temporary discoloration of your teeth, sweat, urine, saliva, and tears (red, orange, or brown color). This side effect is usually not harmful. However, discoloration of urine can be a sign of liver damage. Call your doctor if you have discoloration of urine with stomach pain, loss of appetite, and jaundice (yellowing of your skin or eyes).

Q. Can I discontinue Akurit-3 Tablet if I feel well?

No, do not discontinue Akurit-3 Tablet. Take the proper course of the drug that has been prescribed to you even if you begin to feel better. If you stop taking Akurit-3 Tablet, your infection may become worse and difficult to treat. It may even result in drug-resistant TB i.e. drugs you were taking may no longer work for Tuberculosis.

Q. Can Akurit-3 Tablet cause visual impairment?

Akurit-3 Tablet contains Ethambutol, which may cause visual impairment. Inform the doctor immediately if you notice any changes in your eyesight.
