Diof-DS Suspension is an antibiotic medicine given to children for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial and parasitic infections. These infections may include tooth abscess, gum infection, pneumonia, diarrhea, dysentery, burning sensation while passing urine, and genital tract infection. Diof-DS Suspension inhibits the growth of infection-causing organisms by stopping them from multiplying. It is most likely that your child’s infection will start showing improvement within 3 to 5 days of the regular dosing. Make sure to complete the full course of treatment even if your child feels better. Stopping the medicine abruptly by yourself may worsen your child’s condition or cause infection recurrence.

- If your child develops diarrhea as a side effect, encourage them to drink plenty of water.
- Diof-DS Suspension may cause an altered taste. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help.
- Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid to your child within 2 hours of taking Diof-DS Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine.
- Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions.
- Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
- Discontinue Diof-DS Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing.
- Never save the medicine for future illnesses since its effectiveness in future infections cannot be guaranteed.

Q. What if I give excess Diof-DS Suspension by mistake?
Although an extra dose of Diof-DS Suspension will not have any side effects, you must always be vigilant. If you think you have given too much Diof-DS Suspension to your child, immediately speak to a doctor. Overdose increases the risk of unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat. Rush to your child’s doctor on an immediate basis if you notice any of these symptoms.
Q. What should I do if my child shows no improvement even after taking Diof-DS Suspension for the prescribed duration?
Ineffective treatment with Diof-DS Suspension could mean that the medicine is not able to act against the infection-causing bacteria. In such a case, visit your child’s doctor who may prescribe some other antibiotic, having more specific action toward the infection-causing bacteria.
Q. Can other medicines be given at the same time as Diof-DS Suspension?
Diof-DS Suspension can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Diof-DS Suspension. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Q. Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Diof-DS Suspension?
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.
Q. What should I tell the doctor before giving Diof-DS Suspension to my child?
Inform the doctor if your child is suffering from heart disease, genetic disorders involving blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (allergy from sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. This is because there is a possibility that Diof-DS Suspension may aggravate these conditions and result in complications.
Q. My child has been passing red-brown urine ever since he started taking Diof-DS Suspension. Is it normal?
Yes, it is normal. Diof-DS Suspension contains an active ingredient called metronidazole which can cause red-brown urine. It is a harmless side effect. It will subside once the medicine is stopped after the completion of the treatment.
Q. My child is having a common cold. Is it safe to give Diof-DS Suspension along with cough & cold medicines?
No, do not give Diof-DS Suspension with cough and cold medicines as it can interfere with their working.
