Maxolid Tablet is an antibiotic medicine used in the treatment of severe bacterial infections. It is used to treat infections of the lungs (pneumonia), skin, and soft tissues.

Maxolid Tablet may be taken with or without food, preferably at a fixed time. You should take it regularly as per the schedule prescribed by your doctor. Taking it at the same time every day will help you to remember to take it. Do not stop taking it until you have finished the complete course, even when you feel better. If you stop taking this medicine too early then infection may return or worsen.

The most common side effects of Maxolid Tablet include vomiting, headache, nausea, decreased blood cell counts, and diarrhea. These are usually mild but let your doctor know if they bother you or last more than a few days.

Before using it, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any antibiotics or have any kidney or liver problems. You should also let your doctor know all other medicines you are taking as they may affect, or be affected by this medicine. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before using it.

Avoid Maxolid Tablet with tyramine-rich food such as cheese, smoked fish, meats and some types of beer.

Driving
UNSAFE
Maxolid Tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
Kidney
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Maxolid Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Maxolid Tablet is recommended.
However, talk to your doctor if you have any underlying kidney disease.
Liver
CAUTION
Maxolid Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Dose adjustment of Maxolid Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Limited information is available on the use of Maxolid Tablet in these patients. No dose adjustment is recommended in patients with mild to moderate liver disease.

What if you forget to take Maxolid Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Maxolid Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Yes, the use of Maxolid Tablet can cause diarrhea. It is an antibiotic which kills the harmful bacteria. However, it also affects the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine and causes diarrhea. If you are experiencing severe diarrhea, talk to your doctor about it.

What foods should I avoid while taking Maxolid Tablet?

You should avoid taking large quantities of food that contain high tyramine in it. Foods that are fermented, cured, aged or spoiled contain high amount of tyramine e.g cheese, red wine, pickle, over ripe fruits etc. Consuming tyramine while taking Maxolid Tablet can result in elevation of blood pressure, which may result in an emergency situation.
