Ralixim Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine. It is commonly given to children to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including infections of the eyes, middle ear, nose, throat, lungs, skin, bone and joints, gastrointestinal tract, and urinary tract. This medicine inhibits the growth of infection-causing bacteria by stopping it from multiplying.

Children usually start showing improvement within 3 to 5 days of the regular dosing. You must continue giving the medicine even after seeing this improvement because stopping the medicine abruptly may worsen your child’s condition or cause infection recurrence.

Side effects of Ralixim Dry Syrup in children

Ralixim Dry Syrup does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine. Ralixim Dry Syrup is a combination of two medicines: Cefixime and Lactobacillus. Cefixime is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria in the human body. Lactobacillus is a live micro-organism that restores the balance of good bacteria in the intestine that may get upset with antibiotic use or due to intestinal infections.

However, consult with your child’s doctor before giving Ralixim Dry Syrup to your child in case of a severe form of liver disease.

What if I forget to give Ralixim Dry Syrup to my child?

Unless your child’s doctor has advised a specific regime for your child, you can give the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not give the double dose to catch up and follow the prescribed dosing schedule.

Quick tips

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
Ralixim Dry Syrup may cause a bitter taste. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help.
Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect.
Never give Ralixim Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. You must also never share your child’s medicine with anyone else even if they show similar symptoms.
Stop Ralixim Dry Syrup immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Report to the doctor without any delay.
