Also given as an alternative therapy to penicillin allergy, T Mycin Kid Tablet may help treat certain specific infections such as pertussis (whooping cough) and diphtheria.

It stops the growth of the bacteria causing the infection and clears the infection. Take it for as long as prescribed by the doctor and avoid skipping doses. This will make sure that all bacteria are killed and they do not become resistant.

In Treatment of Pertussis

Pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory tract infection that can be life-threatening for infants. It is marked by a severe hacking cough followed by a high-pitched intake of breath that sounds like "whoop". It is easily preventable by vaccine, but T Mycin Kid Tablet is given if a child develops the infection.

In Treatment of Diphtheria

It is a serious infection of the nose and throat in which a layer of thick, grey matter covers the back of the throat, making breathing hard. It is easily preventable by vaccine, but T Mycin Kid Tablet is given if a child develops the infection.

T Mycin Kid Tablet does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine. CAUTION
T Mycin Kid Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of T Mycin Kid Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

What if I forget to give T Mycin Kid Tablet to my child?

Do not panic. Unless your child’s doctor has advised a specific regime for your child, you can give the missed dose as soon as you remember. But, if it is nearly time for the next dose, just give the upcoming dose at the right time. Do not double the dose.

Though an extra dose of T Mycin Kid Tablet does not usually cause any harm, you must consult a doctor immediately if you feel you have given too much of it to your child. Avoid giving T Mycin Kid Tablet if your child has low potassium levels as it can lead to conduction abnormalities of the heart such as arrhythmias (QT prolongation).

Q. Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with T Mycin Kid Tablet?

Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.

Your child’s doctor may advise you to track your child’s ECG and liver functioning periodically as that will help to keep a check on your child’s condition.

No. Sore throats, runny nose, cough, pain, or discharge from the ear are almost always caused by viruses. As per statistics, more than 80% of sore throats and ear infections are caused by a virus. Since antibiotics should not be given for viral infections, it will be best if you consult your child’s doctor to seek guidance.

Yes, the use of T Mycin Kid Tablet can cause diarrhea. It is an antibiotic which kills the harmful bacteria. However, it also affects the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine and causes diarrhea. If you are experiencing severe diarrhea, talk to your doctor about it.

Usually, T Mycin Kid Tablet starts working soon after taking it. However, it may take some days to kill all the harmful bacteria and make you feel better.
