In Epilepsy/Seizures
Topirol 100 Tablet is an anticonvulsant (or anti-epileptic) medicine that works by decreasing the nerve impulses which cause the seizures. By controlling the frequency of seizures, it will help you go about your daily activities with more confidence. It helps reduce symptoms such as confusion, uncontrollable jerking movements, loss of awareness, and fear or anxiety.
This medicine is not associated with any physical or psychological dependence (addiction) but it should not be stopped suddenly. It must be taken regularly as prescribed to be effective. Missing doses may trigger a seizure.

In Lennox–Gastaut syndrome
Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) is a rare but severe form of epilepsy that usually starts in early childhood. Affected children may experience several different types of seizures. Topirol 100 Tablet helps prevent and control these seizures by decreasing the nerve impulses which cause the seizures.

Other serious side effects of Topirol 100 Tablet could be suicidal thoughts and insufficient sweating (some children taking Topirol 100 Tablet may not sweat enough in hot weather, causing their body temperatures to rise).
Q. I am taking valproic acid for fits. Will Topirol 100 Tablet interfere with the working of valproic acid? Can this combination be taken?
Topirol 100 Tablet does not interfere with the working of valproic acid, but it increases the risk of getting excess levels of ammonia in the blood (hyperammonemia). Increased levels of ammonia in the blood can be dangerous and may cause difficulty in thinking, remembering information, or solving problems. It may also decrease your alertness and make you feel very sleepy with low energy. Immediately inform your doctor if you notice these symptoms. It is important to know that, in rare cases, Topirol 100 Tablet alone can cause hyperammonemia.
Q. Can Topirol 100 Tablet be used in children?
Yes, Topirol 100 Tablet is used for seizures in children more than 2 years of age. However, because of the lack of any reports, this medicine is not recommended to be used in children for migraines.
Q. Since I have started using Topirol 100 Tablet people are saying that I have lost weight. Is it because of Topirol 100 Tablet or something else for which I should get investigated?
