Proparacaine + Chlorbutol is a combination of two medicines: Proparacaine and Chlorbutol. Proparacaine is a local anesthetic. It works by blocking pain signals from the nerves to brain which decreases sensation of pain. Chlorbutol is a preservative.

- Proparacaine + Chlorbutol is used to numb the eye before surgery, certain tests, or procedures.
- A doctor or other trained health professional will give you this medicine. Usually 1-2 drops are sufficient to anesthetize the eye.
- The effect of this medicine lasts for up to half an hour.
- Avoid touching or rubbing your eyes while it is still numb.
- This medicine is not for long-term use. Using it for a longer time than needed may cause blurred vision, decreased vision, or blindness.
- You may need to protect your eyes from bright light for a short time after being treated with Proparacaine + Chlorbutol.
