Rifampicin+Isoniazid+Ethambutol+Pyrazinamide+Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) is used in the treatment of tuberculosis.
How Rifampicin + Isoniazid + Ethambutol + Pyrazinamide + Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) works
Rifampicin, isoniazid, ethambutol, pyrazinamide and vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) which treat tuberculosis (TB). Rifampicin works by inactivating a bacterial enzyme (RNA-polymerase) which is required by TB bacteria to make essential proteins and to reproduce, while isoniazid prevents the these bacteria from forming their own protective covering. Together, they kill the bacteria and eradicate the infection. Ethambutol and pyrazinamide, on the other hand work by slowing the growth of these bacteria. Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is added to prevent nerve damage which may be a side effect of isoniazid.

- Rifampicin + Isoniazid + Ethambutol + Pyrazinamide + Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) must be taken on an empty stomach at the same time every day.
- Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection come back and harder to treat.
- Discontinue Rifampicin + Isoniazid + Ethambutol + Pyrazinamide + Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) and inform your doctor immediately if you get a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or have difficulty in breathing.
- It is advisable to drink plenty of fluids and a healthy diet while taking the medicine.
- It may cause dizziness. Do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how the medicine affects you.
- Avoid consuming alcohol while taking medication as it may cause increased side effects.
