Understanding APC Mutation Analysis By Sequencing
What is APC Mutation Analysis By Sequencing?
The APC Mutation Analysis by sequencing is a test that helps detect colon cancer. Colon cancer begins as a noncancerous cluster of cells formed in the colon called polyps, which are formed due to a mutation of the APC gene. If left untreated, these polyps can develop into colon cancer. Although it can develop at any age, it usually affects older adults and can be fatal. Some symptoms of colon cancer are abdominal discomfort, stomach cramps or gas, diarrhoea or constipation, blood in the stools, weakness, and weight loss.
The APC Mutation Analysis by sequencing test is done by collecting a blood sample, from which the DNA is obtained to detect cancer. This test is ordered if there is a family history of colon cancer.
