What is Genxpert for MTB - PCR?
Genxpert for Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) - PCR is a test used to diagnose tuberculosis (TB). It detects the presence of TB bacteria and also tests the resistance to the drug Rifampicin. The Genxpert MTB is a new test that helps in TB control by rapid diagnosis, the results are available within 2 hours. In comparison to the standard culture test which takes about 2 to 6 weeks for MTB to grow.
The doctor may prescribe the test in case of the following symptoms of TB such as a bad cough that lasts for three weeks or longer, pain in the chest, and coughing up blood or sputum. The other symptoms of TB are weight loss, weakness, fatigue, and fever. If the test results come out to be positive, it is strongly indicative of tuberculosis.
What is Genxpert for MTB - PCR used for?
You should get this test done if you have symptoms of tuberculosis like fever, night sweats, weight loss etc. Or if your doctor is suspecting a resistance to anti tubercular drug rifampicin.

If the test comes out to be positive, it is strongly indicative of tuberculosis.
