IDH-1
Understanding IDH-1
What is IDH-1?
IDH-1 codes for an an enzyme called isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 which is found in the cytoplasm of the cells. The test checks mutations in the IDH- 1 gene. IDH-1 plays a key role in various cellular process such as breakdown of fats for energy & protects from reactive oxygen species. Mutations in the IDH-1 gene can cause several diseases which includes Maffucci syndrome, Ollier disease, Cholangiocarcinoma & certain other types of cancers. The test is used to detect diffuse glioma, tumors of central nervous system & to check the prognosis of acute myeloid leukemia. IDH-1 mutations are present in approximately 80% of grade II-III infiltrating gliomas and secondary glioblastomas.
