What is Hepatitis A Virus - IgG?
Hepatitis A is a liver infection caused by Hepatitis A Virus. It can cause scarring in the liver and can lead to liver failure. However, early diagnosis can reduce the risk of severe infection.
IgG antibodies are produced by the immune system in response to HAV infection. The tests detects these antibodies This test is prescribed to confirm hepatitis A virus infection and to diagnose HAV infection if symptoms of liver disease appear. Some most common symptoms are fever, fatigue, jaundice, grey feces, and dark-colored urine. You are at higher risk of HAV if you came in close contact with someone infected with HAV, have a blood clotting disorder or have HIV.

Interpreting Hepatitis A Virus - IgG results
Interpretations
- Positive HAV IgG with negative IgM usually indicate no active infection but previous exposure to hepatitis A virus or recent vaccination
- Negative HAV IgG usually signifies no current or previous HAV infection
- If the total antibody test or hepatitis A IgG result is positive and someone has never been vaccinated against HAV, then the person has had past exposure to the virus. About 30% of adults over age 40 have antibodies to hepatitis A
