What is Hepatitis A Virus - IgM?
Hepatitis A Virus- IgM test checks for the presence of IgM antibodies produced by the body in response to HepA viral infection. These antibodies are developed after a 2- 4 weeks of infection and are an indication of a recent and acute HepA infection. Hepatitis A is a highly contagious and fatal liver disease. It is transmitted through oral fecal contact, unsafe sexual contact or close contact with an infectious person.
Mostly the symptoms of the infection go of its own after 4-8 weeks but in some cases uncontrolled levels of HepA infection can lead to chronic hepatitis infection and liver cirrhosis.
Lack of hygiene in eating practices and daily habits may lead to higher risks of getting infected.

Interpretations
- A positive test for Hepatitis A IgM usually indicates recent infection with Hepatitis A virus. The higher the level of antibodies, the stronger the infection with the virus.
- A negative test means absence of recent infection with Hepatitis A Virus. It does not mean that the person never had an infection with the virus.
