Understanding MRI Pelvis
What is MRI Pelvis?
A Pelvic MRI scan uses magnetic field and radio waves to visualize the bones, organs, blood vessels and other tissues in the pelvic region. Structures inside and near the pelvis include the bladder, prostate, reproductive organs, large bowel, small bowel, and pelvic bones.
Females having abnormal vaginal bleeding, fibroids, pain in the lower belly, infertility, pelvic pain and males having lumps or swelling in the testicles, undescended testicles, pelvic pain, urination problems should undergo this scan.
It is considered harmless and assumed to pose no risks to the patients. It is always important to inform your doctor about any metallic implants in your body before undergoing the scan as they can interfere with the process.
What is MRI Pelvis used for?
- To diagnose lower abdominal pain/swelling/infection in the pelvis region
- To detect infertility, uterine fibroids (cyst growth in the uterus), unexplained belly pain in the pelvis region in women
- To find out any injury, trauma or congenital (birth defects) which has damaged lower belly area or pelvis
