T4 Free & TSH, Ultrasensitive

This test measures the amount of free T4 and  Ultrasensitive thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) produced by the thyroid gland and pituitary gland, respectively. T4/Thyroxine is responsible for maintaining the body's metabolism, mood and temperature. Ultrasensitive TSH is the primary measure of the proper functioning of the thyroid gland.
The measurement of T4 free, along with Ultrasensitive TSH, assesses the functioning of the thyroid gland and helps to detect the disorders related to the thyroid gland.
High levels of  Ultrasensitive TSH indicate a drop in T4 level (Hypothyroidism), while decreased Ultrasensitive TSH points towards an elevated T4 level. (Hyperthyroidism)
Initial symptoms of abnormal thyroid levels are sudden weight fluctuations, irritability, goitre, hair loss and skin problems.
A pregnant woman should always keep a regular check on her thyroid level.
